Due to the limitations of Chinese domestic flights, the luggage we check in from Dayton should be less than 44 lbs (20 kg) – ONE piece per person. If you are traveling with any liquid, gel or aerosol items in your carry-on bag, you should be mindful of the following:

Carry-on Liquids
If you are traveling with any liquid, gel or aerosol items in your carry-on bag, you should be mindful of the following:
- Customers departing from U.S. airports on any domestic or international flight may bring carry-on bags through security and aboard the aircraft with trial-size toiletries (3.4 ounces or less) which can be purchased at any drug store.
- Toiletries must fit comfortably in one, quart-size (7.5" x 8"), clear plastic zip-lock bag.
- The zip-lock bag must be kept separate through airport security so make sure it is easily accessible when you approach the screening area.
Packing List
- Passport
- A copy of passport and Chinese visa page
- Cash or traveler’s checks ($200-$400), cash preferred. Do not bring American $100 bills with series number on upper left corner starting with A, B, C or D and the year of 1996. Since Chinese businesses might also reject any bills with marks (writing, stamps, etc.), smudged images, or tears, you should order new bills from your bank.
- Travel outlet adapter and electric converter for any electronic gadget that cannot handle 110-240V ranges.
- Camera, memory cards, charger and extra camera batteries
- Two good pens (that won’t leak under pressure in aircraft)
- A journal/iPad/laptop/cell phone for your diary
- Over-the-counter medicine and prescription medication in original packages or with a pharmacy label (any medicines you normally use such as Motrin, Sudafed, and Pepto-Bismol).
- A T-shirt with WSU logo
- A set of nicer clothes for formal meetings such as visiting GE and Shaanxi Normal Univeristy
- A bath towel or hand towel
- Small packages of thick Kleenex and a roll of toilet paper (buy in China)
- Small gifts for the Chinese students and conversation partners
- Enough clothes and undergarments for 7 days, conservative outfits and pajamas
- Two pairs of walking shoes (one pair of sneaker) and a pair of flip-flop for shower
- Umbrella and/or raincoat
- Toiletries: Travel size liquid shower soap, shampoo, laundry detergent (optional), toothbrush, toothpast
- A bottle of 2 fl oz hand sanitizer or antibacterial wet wipes
- Major credit card and inform the credit card company that you will be in China.
- Clothesline rope (optional)
- Cough drops and High-C powder (optional)
- Small flashlight for late night reading (optional)
- Healthy snacks for between meals (optional)
- Nametag for each piece of luggage, backpack, camera bag and purse
- Luggage locks to use in the hotels and Chinese domestic flights. (optional)
- Luggage belt for each piece of luggage (optional)
Bring a carry-on bag/backpack on the international flight for:
- Money belt for money and documents
- Contact lens case and small bottle of solution; glasses (if applicable)
- A clear zip-lock bag that contains all travel size liquid bottles (under 3.4 fl oz each)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste or chewing gum/mint gum
- Earphones for music/book on tape (optional)
- Games and playing cards to share (optional)
- Reading material (optional)
- Any prescription medications in original, clearly-marked bottles (if applicable)
- Pen to fill custom forms and to write a daily journal
- Bring at least one set of change clothes (socks and undergarment, etc.) in case our luggage is delayed or our flight is canceled.
- All electronics (phones, iPads, etc.), valuables and chargers should be packed in your carry-on.
